Curham Crushes School Record in 5k; Ratcliffe & Bird Win on Day 1 of Larry Ellis

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/17/15) - Sophomore Megan Curham crushed the 5k with a Princeton record of 15:54.03 on Day 1 of the Larry Ellis Invitational at Weaver Stadium on Friday evening.
Curham ran in the 5k at this past NCAA indoor championships and was intent of breaking the 16-minute mark and did just that this meet. The four time All-America was the only competitor to run under 16 minutes, and destroyed the Princeton record by more than six seconds. The previous record was 16:00.40, which Alex Banfich '12 set at Mt. Sac in 2010. Curham's previous PR was 16:00.71 from last year's Larry Ellis.
Junior Julia Ratcliffe kick started Day 1 of the Larry Ellis Invitational with a win in the women's hammer throw. The defending NCAA hammer throw champion won the event with a throw of 66.15 (217) on her second attempt – while five of her six throws would have won her the event. Ratcliffe has improved on her throws each meet this season.
Sophomore Lizzie Bird kept the wins coming at Weaver Stadium with a big PR in the steeplechase. She clocked 9:58.33, the only competitor of 35 to run under 10 minutes. Bird shaved more than 10 seconds off her previous best time of 10:08.62.
Junior Emily de La Bruyere was fourth in the race at 16:33.20, while twins Kathryn Fluehr and Erika Fluehr were sixth and seventh at 16:36.32 and 16:50.60, respectively.
Senior Kim Mackay and sophomore Zoe Sims had the top times for the Tigers in the 800 at 2:11.15 and 2:11.18. They placed second and third in Section 4, and 18th and 19th overall. Former Tiger Greta Feldman '13 was seven the fast section at 2:10.52 and placed 14th overall.
Feldman went on to rabbit the 1500, and led freshman Melinda Renuart. Renuart had the top time for the Tigers in the 1500 at 4:34.30.
