Women's Water Polo's Johnson Named CWPA Defensive Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Helping the 10th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team to a 14-5 win over George Washington, junior Ashleigh Johnson has been named the CWPA Defensive Player of the Week.
Breaking her own school record against the Colonials, Johnson racked up 22 saves while playing all 32 minutes. Stopping seven of the eight shots she faced in the first quarter, she had five saves in the second. Turning away all six shots that came her way in the third period, Johnson tacked on four more stops in the final frame.
Logging 449:10 minutes in 16 appearances, Johnson has posted a14-2 record. Stopping 194 of the 271 shots she has faced, the junior has registered a 0.716 save percentage while also collecting 26 steals and 10 assists. Johnson has made double-digit saves in nine of her outings, matching her previous best of 20 stops against Long Beach State on Feb. 14.
Posting the two-highest single-season save totals in school history (2014: 367/2013: 366), Johnson currently ranks second on the program charts in career stops with 927, trailing only Ognjenka Vukmirovic (990). With her 22-save effort against George Washington, Johnson now owns or shares the top-eight single-game save totals in Princeton women's water polo history.
Also named the league's Co-Defensive POTW on Feb. 16, this is Johnson's second weekly honor this season.
