Prchal Closes NCAA Regional, Season With 67 at Yale

Princeton sophomore Quinn Prchal had his best round of the weekend Saturday at the NCAA Regional at Yale, but his 67 wasn't enough to put him through to the NCAA Championships.
Prchal finished his weekend at +6, clipping three shots off his total entering Saturday's round and tying for 37th in the 75-player field. From the regional, five teams and the top player not on those teams advanced to the NCAA Championships to begin later this month in Florida, and the number to gain that individual spot turned out to be -4. Ohio State's Addison Coll and Troy's Tolver Dozier, who were at -4 after 54 holes, entered a playoff for the individual bid, which Dozier won on the first hole.
South Florida, which is the host team for the NCAA Championships, won the regional going away, finishing at 14-under to clear even-par San Diego State by 14 shots. Oklahoma State's Jordan Niebrugge, who had the tournament's low round with a course-record 62 Friday, a round that included 10 pars and eight birdies, won medalist honors at -7 by three shots over a trio of players at -4, including Coll, Dozier and Vanderbilt's Matthias Schwab, who is advancing with his team.
Prchal's third round, which began on the 10th hole, started with two bogeys, but the Ivy League individual champion soon got things going, getting birdies on six of the next 15 holes before closing with a bogey on the ninth hole. Of the 225 rounds played over the weekend, only 20, including Prchal's Saturday, were 67 or better.
