Women's Lights Claim Bronze At Sprints, Will Seek More At IRA Championships
May 03, 2015 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
The Princeton women's lightweight rowing team returned to the Eastern Sprints medal stand Sunday afternoon on Cooper River, but they will have their sights set much higher May 31 at Mercer Lake. The Tigers topped Wisconsin by more than seven seconds to win a bronze medal, though Radcliffe was able to row away with the title.
Princeton placed its 2V8 and its varsity four in their respective grand finals, but both finished fourth. The 2V finished in 6:59.73, less than nine seconds behind Wisconsin for bronze, while the four finished in 8:16.739, about 17 seconds behind Georgetown.
The varsity eight had gone toe-to-toe against Radcliffe twice this season, and both times they split very close races. The third meeting would go to the reigning Sprints champs, as Radcliffe won in 6:36.267, while Boston University took second in 6:39.183.
"It was a tough race," head coach Paul Rassam said. "We didn't settle with the same base speed we have been showing. We have a lot to figure out over the next four weeks."
Princeton will now have four weeks of training before making the short trip to Mercer Lake to compete at the 2015 IRA national championships.
