Day 2 of the #NCAATF Championships
June 11, 2015 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Day 2 (7:50 p.m.): A busy day! First Julia Ratcliffe takes second in the hammer then Soerens scores a school record to take sixth in the decathlon and then Megan Curham takes 12th in the 10k. Be sure to check out the photo galleries, videos and recap on GPT later.
Day 2 (12:50 p.m.) - Soerens does well in the discus, with both throws over 40 meters. He finishes sixth with a 41.76 to pick up 700 points. He remains in 10th place with the pole vault up next. Starting to see some activity over at the hammer throw area, with fans already scouting out seats.
Day 2 (11 a.m.): Another dance party day at Hayward Field! I don't know if it's new for this year or I just never realized it - but they play music over the speakers all day. Right now the defending decathlon champion is throwing while Beastie Boys "You Gotta Fight For Your Right to Party" is playing. Does the athlete who throws during J-Lo get a pass? #TurnDownForWhat
Day 2 (10:30 a.m.): Tough run for Soerens in the hurdles. He clocks a 16.05 to earn just 727 points and just like that he drops from fourth place into 10th. He has four more events to make up points in. Next up is the discus. With just one throwing area for the discus and Soerens in flight 2, there will be some time before we get started there.
In the meantime, check out today's TigerBlog about track & field
Day 2 (9:30 a.m.): It's Day 2 of the NCAA Track & Field Championships, and essentially opening day for the women's student-athletes. All four of our female competitors will compete today, including reigning national hammer throw champion Julia Ratcliffe.
Ratcliffe enters today's meet ranked third and it will be a throw down in the ring between her, Brooke Pleger (Bowling Green) and Daina Levy (Kansas) - and possibly a ringer. All three of these throwers are in Flight 2, which means they won't start until after Flight 1 with there being just one hammer throw area. Estimate about 40-60 minutes after the 1:30 p.m., start for Flight 2.
But up first is the continuation of the decathlon for Stephen Soerens. He enters today with a score of 4,091 and is in fourth place. The first event will be the 110-meter hurdles at 10 a.m., followed by the discus and pole vault. Anything can happen in these three events. Stay tuned!
Check @PUTigers and @PrincetonTrack for updates or follow along with the live results. Meet coverage will also be televised on ESPN family of networks. For more information check out the Princeton preview of the meet.
