PRINCETON, N.J. (6/29/15) - Princeton University women's hockey head coach Jeff Kampersal and assistant coach Cara Morey are pleased to announced the addition of Tony Maci to the Tigers' coaching staff.
“I am grateful for the opportunity that Jeff, Cara and Princeton University have given me,” Maci said. “Jeff and Cara are great people and have created an environment for the players to be challenged and excel in. I'm extremely excited for the players to return to campus and ready to compete along side them for an Ivy and ECAC championship.”
“We are looking forward to working with Tony,” Kampersal said. “He is a good person, a hard worker and he takes initiative.”
Maci comes to Princeton from Adrian College (Mich.) where he has been the assistant coach of the women's hockey program since 2012.
Maci was involved in nearly every aspect of Adrian's program. In addition to being the primary defense coach, he was the team travel coordinator, developed on and off ice individual workouts, managed weekly team study tables and created the Adrian College Bulldogs Girls Camp.
He was responsible for creating and implementing the special team systems, the best in the NCAA, as reflected by their NCAA-leading combined special teams in 2012-13 and 2014-15. Additionally, he constructed the defensive and neutral zone systems.
Adrian posted the best win percentage in school history in 2014-15 at 84.6 percent, with its second 20+ win season in three seasons. The Bulldogs were the undefeated regular season champions in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) in 2014-15.
Maci was responsible for the recruitment of the eventual NCHA Freshman of the Year and four all-freshman team selections. Six players earned All-America honors, including three first-team selections on defense. Seven of his defenders were also named all-NCHA.
A native of Grosse Ile, Mich., Maci played his junior hockey with the Springfield Jr. Blues (NAHL). Maci is a 2004 graduate of St. Lawrence University with a degree in English. A five-year member of the men's hockey program, Maci earned a medical redshirt as a freshmen before going on to play in 83 games. He registered 17 points and 68 penalty minutes as a defender. He is currently pursing his master's degree in education from St. Lawrence.
Following graduation, Maci spent the 2005-06 in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) primarily playing with the Jacksonville Barracudas. He closed out his playing career with 16 points and 37 PIMS in 53 games.
Maci has been a personal hockey instructor since 2006, and has worked as a power skating instructor for the Detriot Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes Rookie Camp, Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) and Plymouth Whalers (OHL). He has also provided specialized on-ice training for local players from the NHL level, to juniors, to collegiate level.
Maci is the former head coach of the Victory Honda Midget Minor AAA Hockey Club in Plymouth, Mich., serving in that capacity from 2007-12 as a USA Hockey certified Level 4 coach. He was also the assistant coach of the Michigan Ice Dogs Jr. A Tier III and Grosse Ile High School in 2011-12.
