The Princeton 2V, winners of Sprints gold and IRA bronze, fell to the strong Leander Boat Club Friday morning in its opening race of the Ladies Plate Challenge at the Royal Henley Regatta. The video recap, with quotes from several members of the boat, is available above.
The 2V, which has won silver at back-to-back IRA Championships, kept contact with Leander throughout the race, but it was the strong start by its opponent that the Tigers could never overcome.
As of the time of this posting, the Princeton 1V fell to five-time reigning IRA national champion Washington by one length. It was the opposite of the 2V race, as the Tigers actually jumped out on the Huskies at the start, but they were never able to get more than half a length edge on Washington. The Huskies consistently cut into that edge and then built one of its own. Despite a late Tiger charge, Washington claimed victory by a length to continue its Henley competition.
The Tiger 3V will compete at 1:10 this afternoon in the Temple Cup quarterfinal against the Université de Lyon of France. Check back later today for a full recap of the day, as well as a video on the later races.
