Johnson Leads Team USA to FINA World Championship Final

PRINCETON, N.J. – Continuing to impress while playing for the United States senior women's national team, Princeton water polo's Ashleigh Johnson has led Team USA to the finals of the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
Seeing action in all six games, the standout goalkeeper has racked up 54 saves. Turning away 14 shots in the opener against Brazil (W, 13-2), she made eight stops in a 10-9 loss to Italy.
Recording three saves while splitting time in net against Japan (W, 17-2), Johnson tallied four stops in a 12-7 victory over Hungary. Against Spain in the quarterfinals, Johnson posted 15 saves en route to an 8-5 victory. In yesterday's semifinal against Australia, Johnson tacked on 10 more stops while leading the Americans to an 8-6 win.
Johnson and Team USA will meet the Netherlands in Friday's (Aug. 7) gold medal game, scheduled for 3 p.m. (EST). The match will stream live on UniversalSports.com and air on delay on Universal Sports at 8 p.m. (EST).
Earlier this summer, Johnson helped the United States to gold medals at the Pan Am Games in Toronto, the Kushan Cup, and the FINA World League Super Final. Registering 16 saves in a pair of showings at the Kushan Cup, Johnson stopped 67 shots in the World Super League Final. In two Pan Am games, Johnson collected 17 saves.
The reigning CWPA Player of the Year, Johnson has posted an 81-13 overall mark, turning away 1,062 of the 1,533 shots she has faced en route to a 0.693 save percentage. Putting together three of the highest single-season save totals in program history, Johnson is already the Tigers' career leader with 1,062 stops.
