Vanessa Gregoire's 16th-minute goal was a sign of good things to come Wednesday night at Roberts Stadium as Princeton beat La Salle 4-1. The sophomore midfielder took a pass upfield from Jesse McDonough and got La Salle goalkeeper Larisa Zambelli to try and make a slide tackle and end the threat. Gregoire, though was elusive and kept possession, knocking it home. Four minutes before the half, Mimi Asom charged ahead, taking a pass forward from Emily Sura and charging past the La Salle defense to put Princeton up 2-0 heading into the break. Just 88 ticks after the second half began, Tyler Lussi scored off a corner kick, taking a Natalie Larkin pass near the top of the box and firing it in for a 3-0 lead. Princeton lost the shutout on a fluke goal in the 68th minute, when a clearing attempt went awry and instead snuck inside the left post. The Tigers, though, held off the Explorers from there despite having just a two-goal lead. In the 87th minute, Zambelli received a red card for her tackle on Asom, and Lussi pounded a free kick inside the left post for a 4-1 lead. |
| Game Notes |
| • Junior Tyler Lussi now has 33 goals on her career and a team-best five this season. Her career total stands fifth all-time in program history, three back of Jen Hoy '13 for fourth. • Princeton put together two wins over Philadelphia Big 5 schools by a combined score of 7-2. The Tigers beat Villanova 3-1 Sunday morning. • Princeton now leads the all-time series with La Salle 7-1-2. Since the series resumed on an annual basis in 2011, this was the first game not to end in a tie or be decided by one goal. |
