Men's Tennis Wraps Porsche Napa Valley Classic
September 27, 2015 | Men's Tennis
Alex Day picked up a win on the final day of the Porsche Napa Valley Classic before Princeton's four-man contingent at the event headed back East.
With the three-set win over Cal's Oskar Wikberg, Day finished 3-0 in his four-man group after also getting wins over USTA Juniors player Oliver Crawford and 86th-ranked Elliott Orkin of Florida. Winning the group got Day into a playoff with the other seven group winners for a wild-card entry into a USTA Pro Circuit Futures or Challenger event, but Harrison Scott of Texas tripped up Day 10-4 in a match that consisted of just a 10-point tiebreaker.
"It was a productive weekend against some very good competition," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "I felt we distinguished ourselves well and I think the caliber of competition, combined with the special quality of the Meadowood Club and the tremendous hospitality, promoted a high standard of play. I'm proud of the way Alex played this weekend as he really maintained a high degree of focus and energy in all five of his singles and doubles matches. I was also encouraged by our improved doubles play this weekend as we demonstrated better energy and execution."
Princeton will have next weekend away from competition before hosting the Farnsworth Invitational Oct. 9-11.
