Players Mentioned
Postgame Notes: Princeton 73, Penn 71 (OT)
January 10, 2016 | Men's Basketball
• Princeton chipped another game off Penn's lead in the all-time series, which now stands at 124-109.
• After Penn went ahead 11 points at 64-53 with 3:38 left in overtime, the Quakers went 1 of 5 from the floor with one turnover and missed the front end of a 1-and-1 from the free-throw line. Princeton went 3 of 3 from the field and 4 of 7 from the free-throw line. Princeton also grabbed four of the five available rebounds over that last 3:38 of regulation.
• The teams combined to go 2 of 13 from the field in the overtime, with Penn going 2 of 8 and Princeton 0 of 5. Princeton, however, was 7 of 8 from the stripe in the extra period and Penn was 0 of 1.
• Princeton outrebounded Penn 20-14 in the first half before Penn outrebounded Princeton 27-13 in the second half.
• This was the first overtime Princeton-Penn game since 2011, a Princeton win in Jadwin, and the first OT game between the teams at The Palestra since 2005, a Quaker win.
• The teams play first at The Palestra in every even-numbered year, and Penn had won the last two such meetings.
• Amir Bell's 28 points upped his career best by 17, which he had last against Miami on Dec. 29, 2015. Bell's 28 points were the most for any Princeton player against Penn since Steve Goodrich '98 had 33 on March 3, 1998.
• Princeton hadn't had an overtime game since the 2013-14 season, when it had four. Princeton won the first two, against Lafayette and at Penn State, and lost the last two, at Dartmouth and at Yale.
• This was the fourth time this season Princeton shot below .400 from the field in a game but the first time this season the Tigers have won such a game.
• Princeton tied a season high with seven blocked shots (Dec. 22 vs. Bucknell).
• Penn's four made free throws were a season low for a Princeton opponent. The Quakers' 18 turnovers tied a season high for a Princeton opponent.
• Princeton (30) shot 19 more free throws than Penn (11). It's the third time this season (Liberty, Saint Peter's) that Princeton has shot at least 19 more free throws than its opponent, and the Tigers have won all three of those games.
