VIDEO: Teo D'Alessandro, Jack Pohlman Look Ahead To HYPs
PODCASTS: Marco Bove on TigerCast
Seniors like Teo D'Alessandro and Byron Sanborn have experienced plenty at Princeton.
Ivy League team titles? Check.
First-team All-Ivy honors? Check.
NCAA Championships appearances? Check.
Victory during HYP Weekend? Not quite yet.
That is the goal for the Princeton men's swimming and diving team this weekend, as it begins the second half of the season and the sprint towards the 2016 Ivy League Championships (Feb. 25-27 in Providence). While the Tigers have won two of the last three Ivy League titles — as well as five of the last six — nobody on this roster has beaten Harvard in a dual meet.
For the Class of 2016, that final opportunity comes this weekend during a two-session meet in DeNunzio Pool. Both sessions (Friday at 6 pm, Saturday at noon) will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network. The full order of events can be found at the bottom of this schedule, and you can follow live results here.
All three teams are undefeated during the regular season; Princeton has gone 4-0, with all four victories coming against Ivy rivals in DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers will finish the Ivy season with three meets over six days at home (Columbia comes to Princeton Feb. 5), and then will have three weeks to prepare for the Ivy League Championships.
This weekend should serve as an early preview for Ivies, considering Princeton, Harvard and Yale went 1-2-3 at the Championships last year, and the three schools have combined to win every Ivy League title since 1990. Twenty swimmers currently own Top-3 Ivy titles in individual events from one of these three teams, and seven have top times overall.
Below are several swimmers to watch throughout the weekend, as well as the order of events over the two days. Also, check back Thursday, as senior Marco Bove joins this week's edition of TigerCast.
