January 30, 2016 | Men's Tennis
In the second of three straight matches against Big Ten opponents, Princeton pushed the doubles point to the third match but fell to Michigan 7-0 Friday evening at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
The event was part of the Big Ten/Ivy League Challenge, which also includes Princeton's Saturday opponent, Iowa, and Cornell.
Diego Vives and Jimmy Wasserman teamed for a win at second doubles before Michigan won on court three, and the Wolverines took the evening's first point with a win on court one.
Michigan then went on to take four of the six singles matches in straight sets before Alex Day and Josh Yablon extended their matches to third sets before Michigan completed the sweep.
Princeton's match against the 64th-ranked Hawkeyes back at the National Tennis Center will start at 3:30 p.m.

Coach Billy Pate on the match: "I felt we played better in certain areas tonight and once again gave ourselves a good shot to get the doubles point. It certainly wasn't as lopsided as the final score might indicate. However, we didn't capitalize on crucial points in a few of the first sets to really give ourselves the necessary momentum. Michigan is a very balanced team and it showed in their success against us down low tonight. It was clearly a bit more challenging without Tom (Colautti) at the No. 1 singles position, but Michigan played a great match regardless. We'll need a quick turnaround for a very good Iowa squad tomorrow and I'm confident we'll continue to make adjustments and improve each match." |
