USA VS. GREAT BRITAIN TEST SERIES SCHEDULE
PRINCETON, N.J. – Several members of the Princeton University field hockey team are currently competing with the United States U-21 squad in a test series against Great Britain.
Representing the Tigers are junior Cat Caro, freshman Sophia Tornetta, and incoming freshman Maddie Bacskai of Berwyn, Pa. From Jan. 6-12, Team USA will play five matches against Great Britain's U-21 squad at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Lancaster County, Pa.
The Americans dropped the first game of the series on Wednesday, 2-1, before securing a 4-0 win on Thursday afternoon. The teams will once again square off on Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 9-10 before closing out the five-match stretch on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Serving as the Tigers' lone co-captain this season, Caro collected 14 points on five goals and four assists. A second-team All-Ivy selection, Caro also earned a spot on the 2015 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region first team.
Joining Caro on the Mid-Atlantic region's top squad, Tornetta tallied 23 points (7G, 9A) en route to Ivy League Rookie of the Year and first-team all-conference accolades. Factoring into the scoring in 11 of her appearances, Tornetta helped lead the Tigers to a 3-1 upset win over perennial power Maryland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, netting a pair of scores.
Caro, Tornetta, and Bacskai are just the latest Tigers to gain experience with the national program in the last month. Jane Donio-Enscoe and Elise Wong recently completed a training block with the U-19 team from Dec. 27-30, while head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn served as a coach on the U-17 squad.
Making an immediate impact in just her first season in Orange and Black, Wong earned first-team All-Ivy honors as one of the league's top backs. Starting all 18 games, Wong finished third on the team in assists (6). Seeing action in 17 contests, Donio-Enscoe posted eight points on three goals and two helpers.
Wrapping up her 13th season on the Princeton sidelines, Holmes-Winn has amassed a 164-80 (0.672) overall record and 86-5 (0.945) mark in league play. Picking up Ivy Coach of the Year honors, Holmes-Winn guided the Tigers to their 21st conference title in 22 seasons (24th overall). Earning its 20th NCAA Tournament berth, Princeton punched its ticket to a to its 14th national quarterfinal before ultimately finishing the year with an 11-7 (7-0 Ivy) record.
