CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Despite four goals from sophomore Matt Payne, the No. 9 Princeton Tigers fell to the No. 13 Bucknell Bison, 8-7 at Blodgett Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, the Tigers played the New York Athletic Club (NYAC), dropping a 16-8 decision in a contest that did not count towards the standings. The NYAC featured three former Tigers, Drew Hoffenberg '15, Thomas Nelson '15 and Jamal Motlagh '06.
No. 13 Bucknell 8, No. 9 Princeton 7
Bucknell's Ratmir Babic's goal with 31 seconds left proved to be the decisive blow as the Bison took a close matchup over the Tigers. Payne's tally with 6:16 remaining broke a 6-6 tie, but Rade Joksimovic recorded the equalizer with 1:17 to go before Babic's game-winner.
Following an evenly played first quarter, Bucknell outscored Princeton 2-1 in the second frame to take 5-3 advantage at halftime. The Tigers fought back in the third quarter as junior Jordan Colina's shot tied the contest for the first time since the 3:39 mark of the first stanza. After Bucknell retook the lead, freshman Evan Elig set the score at 6-all as the teams headed into the final eight minutes of action.
