Princeton Loses Heartbreaking Double OT Game at Georgetown

Just 11 seconds stood between the Tigers earning a tie against Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon at Shaw Field.
A free kick taken opposite the midfield line due to a caution led to the game-winning goal by Jon Azzinnari, as he settled a teammate's pass with his chest and fire a low shot into the goal.
Princeton (6-6-1) took a 2-0 lead that was erased by a three-goal run by the Hoyas.Â
Junior James Reiner forced extra time with his first career goal, scoring off the bench in just his seventh appearance. The play ultimately got started by Reiner when he took a long throw it that a Hoya defender tried to clear down the field put instead found Princeton defender Mark Romanowski. Reiner who was running back on the right wing called for the ball and soared in the air to nail the header in the opposite corner in the 82nd minute.
Romanowski started the goal scoring in the 5th minute, his first career tally. Romanowski was inside the box for the first corner kick of the game, taken by Matthew Mangini, and as the in-swinger came in, Romanowski got up over three Hoyas and went over the head of keeper Mitchell Auer.
Senior Greg Seifert added to the lead in the 12th minute with his team-leading eighth goal of the season. Mangini again assisted as he took a restart from about 35 yards out. A string of orange and white lined up along the top of the 18-yard box, but when Mangini's arm came down, Seifert went up and headed the ball to the left of Auer.
The Hoyas seemed to find their footing near the close of the first half and scored twice within five minutes to knot the game, 2-2.Â
Peter Schropp added the game's third header as he received a long ball from Christopher Lema shortly after a corner kick and Azzinnari scored his first of the game with a long shot from 30 yards out on a restart.
Lema gave Georgetown (4-8-1) the lead in the 55th minute when he took a retstart from the top of 18-yard box. The ball curved around the man-made wall and to the left of senior keeper Josh Haberman.
Haberman would leave the game in the 61st minute, with two saves, and would be replaced by freshman Jacob Schachner. Schachner made two saves his most impressive in the 108th, when he come off his line during a one-on-one with Arun Basuljevic to smother the ball.
The Tigers had a number of chances to score the go-ahead goal after Reiner knotted the game at 3-3. Mangini had a left-footed shot in the 86th that was pushed away, Seifert had a restart 30 yards out that went right on frame and had yet another strike in the 102nd minute that just went wide. Junior Harry Heffernan nearly cleared the field in the 109th as Auer had to make a diving save on a counter attack.
Princeton had a 21-18 advantage in shots, as Auer made nine saves in his second game of the season for Georgetown.
The Tigers host Harvard this Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m., on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
