Eight Princeton Boats Compete At Fall-Opening Head Of The Charles; Each Places Inside Top 10
October 23, 2016 | Heavyweight Rowing, Women's Rowing - Open, Women's Rowing - Lightweight, Men's Rowing - Lightweight
Though each of the Princeton rowing teams have been training for weeks, the official start to the (very brief) fall racing season began this weekend at the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston. The Tigers sent eight different boats over the four programs, and each placed inside the Top 10 of their respective fields.

HEAVYWEIGHTS
The two-time Rowe Cup champion Tiger heavyweights demonstrated their depth by placing two boats in the Top 8 of the championship event, while no other program had two boats within the Top 13. The top Tiger boat, led by stroke Nick Mead, took sixth in 15:09.45, a time that fell less than .2 of a second outside the Top 5. Princeton's second eight, stroked by Jonny Naylor, wasn't far behind, as it finished eighth overall in a time of 15:23.14. Ralph Elsegood stroked the championship four to a seventh-place finish in 17:29.59.
OPEN WOMEN
Sophomore Emily Kallfelz, one of two freshmen to row in Princeton's 2016 Ivy champion varsity eight last year, stroked the Tiger women to a seventh-place finish in 17:17.113.
MEN'S LIGHTWEIGHTS
Sophomore Jordi Cabanas stroked the Tiger lightweight eight, medalists at both Sprints and IRAs last year, to a third-place finish in the championship event at the Head of the Charles in a time of 15:51.54. Freshman Oskar Arzt-Jones stroked the second lightweight eight to a seventh-place finish in 16:17.47. This was the top finish for a No. 2 boat among any collegiate program.
WOMEN'S LIGHTWEIGHTS
Freshman Georgia Timm, coming off her qualification for the U-23 World Championships, stroked the top Princeton women's lightweight boat to a fourth-place finish in 18:52.92. Grace Cordsen also stroked a Princeton lightweight four to an eighth-place finish in 21:42.73.
