PRINCETON, N.J. (10/25/16) - With three games remaining in the regular season, the Princeton men's soccer team will next face Cornell on Saturday, Oct. 29 in at 5 p.m., game in Ithaca, N.Y.
The Tigers are 51-37-13 all-time against the Big Red, dating back to 1908. Cornell won a 2-1 game last year with the decisive goal coming in the 84th minute. A penalty kick in the 54th put Cornell on the board but Thomas Sanner responded 15 minutes later to knot the game at 1-1.
Princeton is 6-7-1 overall, with six of those seven losses all being one-goal decisions. The Tigers are 0-3-1 in the Ivy League, most recently falling to Harvard 3-2 in a high-scoing five-goal first half. For the third straight season Princeton has the leading scorer, this time a surprise as it comes from versatile player Greg Seifert. Originally intending to play on defense, Seifert has played every field position and currently leads the lead in goals with nine and points with 21. Freshman Benjamin Martin has eight points on three goals and two assists, while senior Vikram Pothuri adds seven points on teo gaols and three assists. Senior Mark Romanowski and junior Matthew Mangini lead the team in assists with four apiece. Senior Josh Haberman has started in all 14 games and has a 1.55 goals against average and a .687 save percentage. Freshman Jacob Schachner has appeared in the last two games, playign 94 minutes and has made four saves on five shots.
Cornell has struggled this season with a 1-11-2 overall record. The lone win, a 3-2 game at Colgate on Oct. 11. Like Princeton they are seeking their first win in the league after going 0-4 with losses to Penn, Harvard, Yale and Brown. The squad averages 0.79 goals per game, while allowing 2.43 gpg. Rookie Brady Dickens has the most points on the team, with six, off of two goals and two assists. Freshman George Pedlow, junior Jonathan Cullom and sophomore Ryan Watters follow up with two goals and one assist apiece. senior Jack Ferguson has two tallies as well. Freshman Ryan Shellow has played 11 games in goal and has a 2.28 GAA and a .684 save percentage. Junior Mitchell Meyer has made four appearances and has a 2.41 GAA and a .550 save percentage.
