Seifert Scores Twice in Princeton's Win at Cornell
October 29, 2016 | Men's Soccer
A pair of second-half Greg Seifert goals 10 minutes apart lifted the Princeton men's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Cornell Saturday night.
The win snaps a three-game skid for the Tigers, who pick up their first win of the Ivy League season. The goals lift Seifert's team-best total to 11 on the season.
Princeton outshot the Big Red 18-9 overall including 13-1 in the first half, but the Tigers didn't solve Cornell keeper Ryan Shellow until the 50th minute, when Seifert took a pass forward from Patrick Barba and worked his way into the 18-yard box, firing it past a diving Shellow for the game's first goal.
In the 60th minute, following a Cornell goal kick, James Reiner won a ball in the midfield and passed it forward to Bryan Prudil, who sent a crossing pass to Seifert into the 18 for Seifert to power in for the 2-0 lead.
Cornell got back to within 2-1 with a Duff Bedrosian goal, but the Tigers were able to hold on to the one-goal advantage for the final 11-plus minutes and get the win.
Princeton will return home to face Penn in a 4 p.m. start next Saturday at Roberts Stadium in the team's final home game of the season.
