Devon Peterkin Earns 2nd Rookie Honor After Leading Tigers To Perfect Ivy League Weekend
October 03, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
Freshman Devon Peterkin admitted after Friday night's 3-0 sweep of Harvard that she had never played in front of a crowd that large. She gave every one of the nearly 1,000 fans multiple reasons to return to Dillon Gym over the next four years.
Peterkin earned her second Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor this season after leading the reigning Ivy League champion Princeton women's volleyball team to 3-0 victories over both the Crimson and Dartmouth this past weekend. The freshman outside hitter from San Diego averaged more than 4.9 points per set, hit just under .400 for the weekend and posted double-doubles in back-to-back wins for the first-place Tigers.
"Devon played exceptionally well this weekend," said head coach Sabrina King. "From offense to defense to serving, passing and blocking, every facet of her game was nearly flawless. She showed a lot of composure during a big weekend, and we look forward to seeing more from this precocious freshman."
Peterkin hit .423 (11-0-26) in the win over Harvard, the other 2015 Ivy co-champion. The next night, she posted a season-best 18 kills and added 12 digs and a pair of blocks in the win over Dartmouth. You can check out highlights from Friday's win, as well as hear from Peterkin, below.
Princeton will return to the court this Friday night to take on Columbia, the only other team with a perfect Ivy League record, Friday night in New York City. You can watch the match live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
