Princeton to Open Season Saturday at Penn
November 01, 2016 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
The season opens Saturday for the Princeton fencing teams at Penn's Elite Invitational.
The Tiger men will have five matches and the women six over the course of the day, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the men against Ohio State and the women against NJIT. The complete schedule for the Tigers is below.
Princeton's schedule for the event includes three teams ranked in the top six in last season's final CollegeFencing360.com poll, including No. 1 Columbia, No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 6 Ohio State, while the women will face four of the top seven teams in the site's final women's poll, including No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Columbia, No. 6 Ohio State and No. 7 Northwestern. Princeton's women were ranked third at the end of last season and the men were ranked seventh as Princeton finished third at the NCAA Championships to take home a top-four trophy for the sixth consecutive year, something no other program accomplished over that span.
Princeton returns four of the six men who represented the team at the NCAA Championships last March, all of whom were All-America honorees: junior saber Edward Chin, senior saber Peter Pak, junior foil Thomas Dudey and senior épée Alex House. The women return three of their six from that meet, including All-America honorees in sophomore épée Charlene Liu, the NCAA runner-up last year, and senior foil Ashley Tsue.
