Cleveland Brown Seth DeValve '16 Scores First NFL Touchdown During Thursday Night Football
November 10, 2016 | Football
DeValve, who dealt with injuries during both training camp and the first half of the Cleveland season, caught his first NFL pass one week earlier against the New York Jets and former teammate Mike Catapano '13. That five-yard catch was a precursor to his 25-yard score on the NFL Network; fellow rookie Cody Kessler allowed DeValve to get past Eric Weddle and lofted a ball toward the goal line. DeValve, who became Princeton's highest-drafted player in the modern era of the NFL Draft, ran under it for the score.

A Princeton graduate hadn't scored a touchdown in the NFL for nearly 30 full years before Caraun Reid '14 returned a fumble 27 yards for the Detroit Lions last season on Monday Night Football. Since then, there have been two more TDs; Reid — now with the San Diego Chargers — returned a fumble 61 yards in an early-season game against Indianapolis, and was quick to point out that DeValve still trails his former teammate on the Tigers' 2013 Ivy League championship team.

Reid, who was recently put on the IR, holds a 14-6 career points lead on DeValve; the defensive lineman and fifth-round draft choice also forced a safety earlier this season.
This is the first time three drafted Princeton players have all been on NFL rosters at the same time since the 1980s. DeValve, a fourth-round selection by the Cleveland Browns, finished career ranked 10th all-time at Princeton in receptions (122) and 13th in receiving yards (1336).
