Princeton Sunk By George Washington, 56-45

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Princeton Tigers fell to the George Washington Colonials, 56-45, at the Smith Center on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Jordan Muhammad set a career high with 12 points to pace the Tigers' offense. Junior Leslie Robinson grabbed a personal-best eight rebounds while freshman Bella Alarie had eight points and five rebounds in the loss.

The Tigers jumped in front on a bucket by Alarie from long distance at the 2:24 mark of the first quarter (7-4). Princeton maintained its lead with a strong effort on the defensive end as it held George Washington to 2-of-13 (15 percent) from the floor, taking a 12-6 lead into the second stanza.

Princeton's first basket of the second quarter, a three-pointer from Muhammad, put it up by seven (15-8), but the Colonials rattled off the next four points to get back within three. This time, the Tigers went on a quick run, registering five straight to take its largest lead of the afternoon, 20-12, with 4:35 to go in the first half. The home team responded with a 14-1 run to end the quarter and took a 26-21 advantage into the intermission.

George Washington continued to stretch its lead to as many as 10 as the second half opened up, but another long range bucket from Muhammad slowed down the Colonials' outburst. The sophomore's fourth three-pointer of the game cut the Tigers' deficit to four (35-31) with 2:21 to go, but consecutive threes from George Washington end the quarter put the home squad ahead, 45-33.

Head coach Courtney Banghart's team made a push in the fourth quarter, cutting a 17-point Colonials' lead to 10 on two separate occasions, but couldn't get any closer. Hannah Schaible posted 11 points and nine rebounds to help George Washington to the victory.

Princeton returns to Jadwin Gymnasium next Saturday vs. Dayton. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. and all fans will receive a Tiger Up T-Shirt.
