November 05, 2016 | Men's Ice Hockey
POTSDAM, N.Y. – Clarkson's Troy Josephs' second goal proved to be the game-winner as the Clarkson Golden Knights defeated the Princeton Tigers, 4-2, at the Cheel Arena on Saturday night.
Â
The Tigers jumped ahead first on a power play goal from Ryan Sirro. It was the senior's 12th career goal at Princeton. Josephs' first goal of the night tied the contest at 1-all at the 10:47 mark of the first period. The two teams finished the first 20 minutes even on the scoreboard and shots (11).
Â
Clarkson scored the only tally of the second period as Sam Vigneault slapped one by Colton Phinney. Ryan Kuffner found the equalizer for Princeton just one minute into the third period, tying the game for a second time. Josephs quickly responded two and half minutes later to put the home squad back in front. Clarkson's Greg Moro tacked on an empty-netter with 25 seconds to go.
Â
Max Veronneau assisted on both of the Tigers' goals while Josh Teves and Alex Riche had helpers as well. Phinney made 28 stops in the loss. Princeton fell to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the ECAC. Clarkson's record improved to 4-5-1 overall and 1-2 in conference. The Tigers host Harvard (Nov. 11) and Dartmouth (Nov. 12) next weekend. The opening face-off for each contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
