No. 10 Princeton Pushes Win Streak To Four; Defeats MIT, Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 10 Princeton Tigers maintained its top position in the Northeast Water Polo Conference standings with road victories over MIT and No. 10 Harvard today.
With an 8-1 NWPC record, Tigers remain in front of Harvard (6-3), No. 12 Brown (6-2), No. 20 St. Francis-Brooklyn (5-4), Iona (1-7) and MIT (0-9). To clinch the No. 1 seed in the NWPC Tournament, the Tigers have to defeated Brown tomorrow (2:30 p.m.).

Sophomores Matt Payne (five goals, two assists) and Ryan Wilson (four goals, three assists) led the Tigers' offense. Princeton swiped 19 passes while Ryan Melosini made eight saves in the victory.
Ahead 3-1 after the first quarter, the Tigers went on a 5-0 run in the second stanza and took an 8-3 lead into the intermission. Princeton pitched a shutout in the third quarter and went on to a 10-goal victory.

Junior Jordan Colina put up six points (four goals, two assists) while senior Curtis Fink, Payne and Wilson posted two goals each. Along with two goals, Payne added two assists, drew two ejections and blocked three shots. Junior Vojislav Mitrovic made 11 saves in the victory. Princeton was missing five players by the end of the game against the CWPA Varsity Poll top-ten foe.
Trailing 5-2 in the second period, the Tigers rallied all the way back and took the lead, 7-6, with 2:59 remaining in the first half. Princeton took an 8-7 advantage into halftime. The Tigers registered the first two tallies of the second stanza before Harvard ended the third quarter with the last two goals, setting the score at 10-9.
Colina's final goal of the night put head coach Luis Nicolao's team up 11-9, but Harvard quickly answered a minute later. The Tigers' defense along with Mitrovic held Harvard off the scoreboard off for the final seven minutes of the game to secure the win.
