Tigers Tie Penn to Wrap Regular Season
November 05, 2016 | Women's Soccer
A first-half Haley Chow goal for Princeton was answered by an Emily Sands goal for Penn less than 18 minutes later, and that's the way it ended on Saturday night at Roberts Stadium.
The 1-1 tie ends Princeton's regular season at 10-4-3. Princeton entered the week with the No. 31 RPI in the nation a year after holding the No. 34 RPI entering the NCAA tournament selections and getting a home game against Boston College. Now, the Tigers must wait for Monday's 4:30 p.m. ET selection show on NCAA.com to find out if they are included in the field of 64.
Princeton continued the trend of dominating the shot statistic, but it didn't lead to a second go-ahead goal against the Quakers. The Tigers have outshot their last eight opponents, a streak that began Oct. 1 against Dartmouth.
Chow's goal, her first of the season, came when she slid and knocked in a corner kick from Jesse McDonough just inside the left post in the seventh minute, but Penn answered when Sasha Stephens found Sands just inside the top corner of the 18-yard box and Sands sent it in to tie it up. The teams played 83-plus minutes after that but couldn't break the deadlock.
