PRINCETON, N.J. (12/12/16) - Fresh off of a sweep of the No. 7-ranked team, the Princeton men's hockey team plays host to Massachusetts on Tuesday in a mid-week matchup. Game time is at 7 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton has won five of its last six games, which included four wins over top-10 teams. This past weekend the Tigers swept travel partner No. 7 Quinnipiac in a home-and-home series. A pair of sophomores lead the team in scoring with Max Véronneau putting up 18 points on six goals and 12 assists. Thirteen of those points have come in the last four games, as he has led the nation in points the last two weeks. Linemate Ryan Kuffner is second on the list with a team-high seven goals and six assists for 13 points, while junior David Hallisey has 13 points as well with five goals and eight assists. Freshman Jackson Cressey has reached double figures as well with two goals and eight helpers. Junior Eric Robinson, sophomores Alex Riche and Josh Teves all have nine points apiece. Senior Colton Phinney has started in all but one game in goal, he has an .889 save percentage and a 3.60 GAA.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN
UMass is 4-9-2 in its first year under head coach Greg Carvel. Though its been over a decade since these two teams have met, Carvel is no stranger to the Tigers - having coached against them with his alma mater St. Lawrence the last few seasons. The team is coming off of a 3-1 loss at UConn last Friday after splitting with Notre Dame at home on Dec. 2 & 3. The Minutemen average 2.33 goals per game and are allow one more than that on average. The power play is 13 for 96 (13.5%), while the penalty kill is 69 for 83 (83.1%). Sophomore Austin Plevy has 11 points in 15 games with a team-high five goals and six assists. Senior Steve Iacobellis has three goals and six assists, while sophomore Kurt Keats and freshman Griff Jeszka have three goals and five assists apiece. Junior Dominic Trento has the most assists on the team with seven. Freshman Ryan Wischow has earned the most starts in goal and has a .908 save percentage and a 2.55 GAA in 11 games. Sophomore Nic Renyard has appeared in five games and has an .888 save percentage and a 4.20 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/MASSACHUSETTS SERIES
Princeton has a one-game lead in the all-time series with UMass, 5-4. The school first met in 1915 and then did not meet again until 1994, when Don "Toot" Cahoon was the head coach of the Tigers. Toot later became head coach at UMass from 2000-2012 and went 3-0 against his former school. The last time the teams met was Dec. 29, 2005 in Amherst, a 4-0 Minutemen win.
