Matthew Kolodzik Earns OpenMat.Com Wrestler/GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete Of The Week Honors

Freshman Matthew Kolodzik, who improved to 12-0 with a pair of victories over the weekend, has been named both the National College Wrestler of the Week by theopenmat.com, as well as the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week honor, presented by Coach USA.

Kolodzik entered the weekend ranked fourth nationally at 141, and he opened up against one of the three wrestlers ranked above him. Lehigh's Randy Cruz, ranked third nationally and a returning All-American, got the early jump in Friday's showdown in Bethlehem with a first-period takedown, but Kolodzik took control from there. He scored a takedown in both the second and third periods to force overtime, and he quickly clinched the 6-4 win with an immediate takedown in sudden victory (see below).

The win gives Kolodzik five victories already this season over wrestlers ranked in the Top 15, including returning All-Americans Cruz and Anthony Ashneault (Rutgers). On Saturday, he made his home debut with a technical fall over Binghamton.

Kolodzik will return to the mat just before New Year's Eve, as he joins his Princeton teammates at the prestigious Ken Kraft Midlands Invitational at Northwestern.
