February 16, 2016 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's basketball team will take on the Yale Bulldogs and Brown Bears this weekend, looking to extend its winning streak to eight games. The Tigers, 17-4 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy League, have won three consecutive games over the Bears and 14 in a row over the Bulldogs.
1. Turnovers – Princeton turn the ball over a combined 48 times against Brown (Jan. 29) and Yale (Jan. 30) last month. In comparison, the Tigers have 45 turnovers in the four games since. Against Brown, the Tigers turned the ball over 23 times, followed by a season-high 25 against Yale. The Bulldogs had 16 steals and converted 27 points off of the Tigers' turnovers. Brown (10.3) and Yale (9.2) are the top teams in the conference in steals per game.
2. Getting To The Line – Yale is the top team in the Ivy League in getting to the charity stripe (437). Princeton allowed Yale to get to the foul line just eight times in the two teams' first meeting at Jadwin.
3. From Beyond The Arc – The Bulldogs have taken the most three-pointers in the conference (472), but ranked second to last in three-point field percentage (30.3). Princeton is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country (19th) at 36.2 percent. Head coach Courtney Banghart's team held Yale to 5-of-20 (25 percent) from long range earlier this year.
4. Defense, Defense, Defense – Princeton (27.8) and Brown (28.8) are two of the three Ivy League teams that hold opponents below 30 percent from the floor. The Tigers' defense was a key factor in their 72-53 victory last month over the Bears. Brown made 20-of-67 (29.9 percent) and had 19 first half points in the game.
5. Rebounding – One of the major keys against Brown will be rebounding. The Bears are eighth in the Ivy League in rebounding margin (-3.5) while the Tigers have the fourth highest margin (+15.5) in the country and average 46.5 rebounds per game, third best in Division I. Princeton outrebounded Brown, 55-39 last month.
