Lund Named a Finalist for ECAC Rookie of the Year

ALBANY, N.Y. (2/28/16) - ECAC Hockey today announced the finalists for the 2016 Women's Rookie of the Year Award. Karlie Lund, Princeton, Melissa Samoskevich, Quinnipiac & Rensselaer's Lovisa Selander have each been nominated for the honor by the League's coaches. These three freshmen made an immediate impact on the success of their teams in conference action this season.
Lund made an immediate impact in the league, becoming the first freshman to lead the league in scoring since Cornell's Brianne Jenner topped all scorers in the 2010-11 season. She was recognized for her prolific performances throughout the season earning Rookie of the Month three times; Rookie of the Week five times; and Player of the Week on one occasion. In overall contests the Eden Prairie, Minn., native registered 37 points, leading the Tigers and ranking second nationally among her rookie counterparts at 1.28 points per game. She has tallied four game-winning goals, two game-tying goals and four power-play goals. Earning a plus-18 on-ice rating, she has won 62.8 percent of her face-offs. Lund was also named a finalist for ECAC Best Forward of the Year.
Samoskevich ranked fourth on the Bobcats in scoring, registering 0.86 points per game, which was 13th-best in the conference and second among all rookies. She helped the Bobcats become the second-best scoring offense netting 3.18 goals per contest and top power-play unit during the 2015-16 campaign. She ranked fourth in the conference among her rookie counterparts with 12 goals, including three on the power-play. The Sandy Hook, Conn., native quickly became a clutch performer netting seven game-winning goals in 22 league games, which helped her earn ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week four times.
Selander helped Rensselaer qualify for the ECAC Hockey playoffs for the first time since 2012-13. The Sollentuna, Sweden was a three-time winner of the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week honor. She was a key component in helping the Engineers improve from surrendering 3.45 goals per game last season to 2.23 in conference action this year. Selander recorded a 2.01 goals-against average in nearly 1300 minutes of action for Rensselaer. She finished with a 8-9-5 record and ranked second among her counterparts with 701 saves. Her .942 save percentage was third-best in conference action and she finished with four shutouts on the season, also third-best.
