ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After taking three of four from the Georgetown Hoyas, the Princeton baseball team will travel to Annapolis to take on the U.S. Naval Academy in a four-game series. Navy is 61-47 all-time vs. Princeton with the two teams splitting a four-game series last season.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
- The Tigers went 4-3 last week, scoring a win over Richmond and three victories over Georgetown.
- In the Tigers' 5-3 win over Richmond last Monday, Princeton was named the Spider Invitational Champion. Senior Danny Hoy had a team-high three hits while sophomore Asher Lee-Tyson had two knocks and a RBI. Junior Chad Powers registered the win after going six innings, scattering nine hits and allowing three runs.
- Princeton dropped two at Old Dominion including a walk-off loss on Tuesday.
- The Tigers lost their second game via walk-off on Thursday against Georgetown before scoring three straight victories.
- The team was trailing 3-0 in its last at-bat on Friday before a junior Paul Tupper three-run home run with two outs sent the game into extra innings. Princeton added four more runs in the 10th to take down the Hoyas, 7-3.
- Princeton scored an 8-4 victory in game two of the Friday doubleheader before Powers posted his second career complete game shutout on Sunday.
ON A ROLL
- Lee-Tyson led the team over the week with a .350 batting average. The infielder had five RBI and had a .440 on-base-percentage.
- Freshmen Joseph Flynn had team-best .421 slugging percentage and hit his first collegiate home run last week.
- Hoy had 10 total bases over the week.
ON THE HILL
- Powers was selected as the Ivy League Co-Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career. The junior recorded two wins last week and is 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 19 innings of work.
- In 10 innings of relief, junior Chris Giglio has given just one earned run (0.84 ERA).
- Senior Luke Strieber leads the team with 10 strikeouts. The senior is 1-1 on the year with a 4.24 ERA in 17 innings.
BATTING AROUND
- Junior Nick Hernandez leads the team in hits (14), total bases (15), batting average (.298)
- Flynn has a team-best .429 on-base percentage and .394 slugging percentage
- Hoy has two home runs to pace the Tigers. Flynn and Tupper also have home runs for Princeton.
- Lee-Tyson has 10 hits this season, seven RBI and team-leading three stolen bases.
SCOUTING NAVY
- Navy is 15-5-1 on the season, recently dropping a 5-4 decision to UMBC.
- The team is 9-1-1 in its last 11 games.
- Robert Currie has a team-best .392 batting average, 29 hits, 18 runs and 17 walks.
- Sean Trent has .547 slugging percentage, 47 total bases and 20 RBI to lead the team.
- Sam Sorenson has a team-low 1.53 ERA in 17 innings.
- Luke Gillingham's 39 strikeouts is the best among the staff. Gillingham boasts a 3-1 record with a 2.19 ERA and two complete games.
- The U.S. Naval Academy took on Yale, an Ivy League foe, and went 3-0-1.
- Navy won 37 games last season, falling into extra innings to Lehigh in the Patriot League Championship.
