Navy Sweeps Baseball in Doubleheader

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Princeton dropped two games against Navy, 1-0 and 7-0, at Max Bishop Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The two teams will face off in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Navy 1, Princeton 0 - Box Score
Junior Paul Tupper led the team with two hits while Strieber allowed just one earned run in six innings. Robert Currie had two knocks for Navy including the game-winning RBI single in the fifth frame. Luke Gillingham picked up the win for the Naval Academy, throwing a complete game shutout.
Navy put runners in scoring position in its first two at bats, but Strieber nabbed strikeouts to stop each threat. Princeton loaded the bases with two out in the second, but a fly out ended the inning.
Strieber retired seven of eight Navy batters from the second through fourth innings before the home team scored its only run in the fifth. Ben McGrath led off the frame with a single and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Following a ground out, Currie ripped a base hit through the right side to put Navy ahead, 1-0.
The Tigers put together one more rally in its final at-bat as Tupper doubled to right center with one out, but Gillingham got a pop up and foul out to register the win for Navy.

The Midshipmen got on the board quickly with two in the first inning on a RBI groundout by Stephen Born and run-scoring single by Adrian Chinnery. Another RBI groundout gave Navy another tally in the fifth frame.
A three spot in the sixth put Navy in front, 6-0. Matthew Wilcox doubled to left center, allowing to Ben McGrath touch home. A few batters later, Currie singled home the Midshipmen's fifith run of the contest. Sean Trent's RBI infield single wrapped up the scoring in the inning. Navy put up another run in the eighth inning.
Billy Arendt led the team with two hits. Sophomore Nick Brady threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. George Coughlin threw seven innings and allowed three hits to nab the win for Navy. Currie registered three hits, two runs and two RBI for the Midshipmen.
