Men's Golf Ties for Third at Princeton Invitational
April 10, 2016 | Men's Golf
Ivies crowded the top of the leaderboard as the Princeton Invitational came to a close Sunday at Springdale Golf Club, and the host Tigers finished in a third-place tie with No. 42 Georgia Tech and Yale at +10, one shot behind runner-up Harvard. Columbia, in sixth place, gave the Ivy four of the top six finishers in the event.
Not part of the Ivy crowd at the top of the leaderboard was No. 20 Duke, which separated itself from the field with a 34-shot margin over the Crimson, finishing at -25 as a team with Blue Devils in the top three spots on the individual tote. Alex Smalley won medalist honors at -8 by a single shot over teammates Max Greyserman and Jake Shuman.
Marc Hedrick was the top Tiger, finishing sixth overall at -2 after cutting four strokes off his Saturday score of 72 to card a final-round 68. Shuman's first-round 65 stood as the low round of the tournament, one shot better than Smalley's Sunday score of 66 to win it.
The tournament is the final one for Princeton before the Ivy League Championships commence April 22 at Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson, N.J.
