Princeton Wraps Up Regular Season With Split at DeNunzio

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 15 Princeton women's water polo team wrapped up the regular season portion of the 2016 season with a split at DeNunzio Pool on Sunday. The Tigers won a thrilling 13-12 contest over the No. 21 Hartwick Hawks and fell to the Bucknell Bison, 10-9.

Sophomore Haley Wan (three goals, three assists) and freshman Lindsey Kelleher (four goals, two assists) continued their outstanding weekends, posting six-point games. Sophomore Chelsea Johnson had her second 10-save performance in two days in the win.
Princeton's offense got off to a fabulous start as it outscored Hartwick, 5-1 in the first quarter. After the Tigers posted two of the first three goals of the second frame, Hartwick got two back to cut its deficit to 7-5. An exchange of tallies put the home team in front, 8-6 at the half. The Hawks got within two (10-8) at the end of three quarters.
The Hawks moved the score to a one-point contest as they converted the first goal of the fourth, but Princeton countered with a tally a minute later. Hartwick crept within one on three occasions over the final 6:04, but Princeton held on for the victory.

Bucknell 10, Princeton 9
Kelleher had a hat trick and two assists to pace the Tigers' offense against Bucknell. Wan nabbed two goals while three other players scored for Princeton. Johnson made seven saves in the loss.
The first half featured six lead changes and five ties. No team led by more than one goal in the first 16 minutes of game action with Bucknell leading 6-5 at intermission.
The Bison jumped ahead with the first two tallies of the third to make the score 8-5. Three times in the fourth quarter, Princeton sliced its differential to one, but couldn't get the equalizer over the last 3:31 of game time.
With the loss, Princeton will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Championship. The Tigers will take on No. 5 Harvard at 4:30 p.m. on Apr. 29.
