Barowski Wins 800 as Larry Ellis Invitational Begins

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/22/16) - The 2016 Larry Ellis Invitational begin today at Weaver Stadium and was highlighted by senior Cecilia Barowski winning the Elite 800.
Barowski won the race at 2:03.05, with splits of 1:03.441 and 59.608. Her time was the best of 80 competitors. Barowski set a school record in the event at Stanford with an Olympic trial qualifying time of 2:02.62. Not far behind, in fourth place was Princeton alum Greta Feldman racing for NJNY Track Club. She clocked 2:05.02. Sophomore Ashley Forte was 13th at 2:08.11 and freshman Jackie Berardo was 15th at 2:08.42 – a big PR shaving more than five seconds off her previous best.
Another alum making it back to familiar territory- and claiming a win was Ashley Higginson in the steeplechase. Competing for Saucony-NJNY Track Club, Higginson finished with a time of 9:42.18. The best collegiate time was Princeton's Emily de La Bruyere with a PR of 10:06.26 for fourth place 7.37 seconds better than her previous best time. Junior Alexandra Markoich was ninth at 10:26.25 besting her previous best by 15.50 seconds.
All three Tigers clocked PRs in the 1500 led by junior Katie Hanss who took third. She ran 4:22.63 with splits of 53.994, 1:10.114, 1:09.895. Sophomore Melinda Renuart ran 4:31.30 and sophomore Delaney Miller 4:34.63.
Sophomore Kennedy O'Dell was fifth in the hammer throw at 55.34 (181-7) on her final throw of the day. She also had two 54 meter throws. It was PR for the sophomore, who's previous best was 53.02 from the South Florida meet that opened the outdoor season. Senior Brielle Rowe was ninth at 51.79 (169-11) on her third attempt .
Junior Ariel Becker threw 39.05 (128-01) on her only countable toss in the javelin. It marked her best throw of the season and first time she has cleared 38 meters this year.
Senior Kathryn Fluehr led the Tigers in the 5k finishing with a time of 17:20.11 to take 15th out of 72 competitors.
Junior Amanda Chang was fourth in the final event of the night, the 10k with a time of 37:46.21.
Day 2 begins at 11 a.m., with the discus while the track events start at noon with the 4x100 relay. More than 150 collegiate teams will be on hand with more than 2,400 student-athletes competing, along with 160 athletes from 36 track clubs.
