Three Top 3 Finishes Come on Day 1 of Larry Ellis Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/22/16) - The 2016 Larry Ellis Invitational got underway today at Princeton University. The men's track and field team had two second-place finishes and a third-place showing after Day 1.
Freshman Adam Kelly was second overall and was the top collegiate in the hammer throw at 65.76 (215-9). He fouled on three throws but had marks of 65.33, 64.55 nd then 65.76 on his final attempt. Roberro Sawyers of Costa Rico won the event at 72.75 (238-8).
Sophomore August Kiles was third in the pole vault clearing 5.20 (17-00.75) on his second attempt at that height. Junior Ben Garlord tied for sixth with a mark of 4.85 (15-11) on his first attempt at the height.
Sophomore Jared Lee had the best time for the Tigers in the Elite 800 with a 1:53.94 a PR.
Princeton had a great 1500 with sophomore Garrett O'Toole took second place overall with the best collegiate time with a PR of 3:41.85. He posted splits of 41.163, 1:00.130, 58.655, and 57.903. The second collegiate finisher was sophomore Noah Kauppila at 3:43.38 (44.897, 1:00.308, 58.571, 59.600) to take sixth place overall Senior Luke Brahm had a PR at 3:46.73 (45.094, 1:02.266, 59.569, 59.795) to take 18th overall.
Seniors Michael Sublette and Brett Kelly were just seconds apart in the 5k as Sublette finished at 14:49.58 and Kelly 14:51.19.
Day 2 begins at 11 a.m., with the shot put while the track events start at 12:15 with the 4x100 relay. More than 150 collegiate teams will be on hand with more than 2,400 student-athletes competing, along with 160 athletes from 36 track clubs.
