Akosa Wins 200, Charles & Both Relays Nab 2nd at Larry Ellis

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/23/16) - Sophomore Carrington Akosa won the 200, while sophomore Mitchel Charles was the runner-up in the discus to highlight the individual efforts at on Day 2 of the Larry Ellis Invitational.
It was an exciting day for the Princeton relays as the Tigers earned second place finishes in both the 4x100 and 4x400.
It was a battle between Cornell, Princeton and Army West Point, as the 4x100 kick started the track events this afternoon. Cornell set a meet record at 40.43 while Princeton was second at 40.62 and Army third at 40.67. Freshman Charles Volker, freshman Josh Billington, senior Daniel McCord, Akosa made up the relay.
The 4x400 closed out the meet with a second-place finish. McCord (47.467) lead off followed by junior Jabari Johnson (50.739), sophomore Joshua Freeman (48.247) and junior Ray Mennin (48.088), as the relay clocked 3:14.54 to take second to St. Joseph's 3:11.61.
Akosa had an excellent afternoon as he won the 200 and was sixth in the 100. Out of 48 sprinters in the 200 the sophomore came in first place with a PR of 21.25. The next best runner was unattached Dennison Long at 21.44. McCord was seventh at 21.62. Akosa had the third best collegiate time and sixth best time overall in the 100 at 10.69.
Junior Ray Mennin had the best time for the Tigers in the 400 at 48.18. He won section 3 and finished eighth overall.
Freshman Franklin Aririguzoh was tenth in the 800 at 1:54.26 (55.537, 58.715) to take fourth in section 2 while Jared Lee was fifth in the same section at 1:54.61 (55.761, 58.849) for 13th place.
In the 1500, sophomore Zachary Albright was fourth at 3:57.05 (47.382, 1:04.106 1:04.959).
Senior Greg Caldwell was third in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.36. He made the eight-man final with a time of 14.39 out of 29 competitors in the prelims. In the 400 hurdles, junior Greg Leeper was sixth at 52.73. Sophomore Spencer Long was right behind him with a PR of 52.74, while freshman Christian Fryer-Davis ran 53.32 for ninth place.
Inside the oval, senior Jake Scinto was third in the long jump. He leapt to 7.16 (23-6) on his second attempt.
On the other side of infield, junior Xavier Bledsoe was fourth in the high jump as he matched his season best of 2.09 (6-10.25).
In the throws, Charles was the runner-up in the discus and fifth in the shot put. He threw the discus to 53.29 (174-10) on his final throw, though his fourth and fifth throws of 52.52 and 51.39 would have claimed him second place as well. In the shot put he had a mark of 16.92 (55-6.25) on his fourth throw.
Freshman Stefan Amokwandoh was eighth in the triple at 14.37 (47-1.75) on his second attempt, right after a 14.35 on his first time out.
Princeton will compete at the Penn Relays April 28-30 and the TCNJ Meet April 29-30 in the final meets before hosting the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships.
