TACARIGUA, Trinidad and Tobago – The United States U-21 women's national field hockey team scored a silver medal at the Junior Pan American Tournament today (Apr. 9). The Argentina national team recorded a 6-0 victory over the USA team to win the gold.
Junior Cat Caro, freshman Sophia Tornetta and Maddie Bacskai '20 are three Princeton representatives on the national squad that also qualified for the Junior Women's World Cup in Santiago, Chile (Nov. 23-Dec. 4) with its silver medal today.
The US national team went undefeated during pool play, finishing with the second best goal differential (+23). The US U-21 team took care of Trinidad and Tobago, 10-0 (Mar. 31), defeated Canada, 5-1 (Apr. 2) and Mexico, 9-0 (Apr. 3).
The USA team easily advanced in the quarterfinals vs. Barbados, winning 11-0. The U-21 team scored four tallies over an eight-minute span of the first half to take command of the contest. USA tripped up Chile, 5-0 in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.

Apr. 7, 2016 - It took some time, but the U.S. team finally got on the scoreboard in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead over Chile in the semifinals. Just four minutes after, the U-21 team posted another goal to take a 2-0 lead into the intermisson. USA gradually pulled away with two goals in a two-minute time frame of the second half, before moving onto the finals with a 5-0 win.
Apr. 5, 2016 - The USA team had no problems in the quarterfinals vs. Barbados, winning 11-0. The U-21 team scored four tallies over an eight-minute span of the first half to take command of the contest. Tornetta added the team's fifth goal of the game. USA took a 7-0 lead into halftime and recorded four more goals in the second half.
Apr. 3, 2016 - USA scored two goals in the first six minutes of the contest vs. Mexico and never looked back. The national team took a 4-0 lead into intermisson. The team tacked on three more tallies in the first eight minutes of the second stanza to push ahead further. Tornetta recorded U-21 team's sixth goal of the game. USA will take on Barbados on Tuesday.

USA took a 2-1 lead into the halftime against Canada and quickly built on that advantage at the start of the second half to take a comfortable 3-1 lead. The team's fourth goal was a nice Princeton connection as Tornetta set up Caro whose shot was deflected into the net by a Canadian defender. A late goal secured a 5-1 win.
