Men's Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep, Tops Yale
April 03, 2016 | Men's Tennis
With three straight road matches against fellow ITA-ranked teams coming up, the 34th-ranked Princeton men's tennis team knew it had to take care of business at home, and the Tigers did just that Sunday by completing a weekend sweep with a 4-1 win over Yale in Jadwin Gym.
Princeton defeated Brown Saturday, also by a 4-1 score, and will have its next three matches on the road, against No. 40 Dartmouth Saturday, No. 47 Harvard Sunday, and at No. 28 Columbia a week from Friday.
Princeton's sweep kept the Tigers among three teams without an Ivy League loss after the league's first full weekend of conference play, with Columbia at 3-0, having already defeated travel partner Cornell, and Princeton and Penn at 2-0 each, with that match as the regular-season finale April 23 in Philadelphia.
Princeton began Sunday's match with a doubles-point win, with Tom Colautti and Ben Tso providing the point-clinching win on court three after the first two courts split. Once singles play began, though Yale tied it up with a win on court six, the next three matches to be decided all went Princeton's way, clinching the match. Luke Gamble, Josh Yablon and Colautti provided the points there to get Princeton to the win.

Coach Billy Pate on the match: "It's great to start off conference play with two wins. Similar to yesterday, however, we can improve by playing with a heightened sense of urgency and demonstrate continuous engagement during the match. Despite winning the doubles, we had some lulls that contributed to us not putting away the match when we could. Yale didn't go away and kept fighting, as we knew they would. We collected ourselves and did a good job of finishing the match, but it's an area we will continue to stress." |
