3 Relays and 3 Shot Putters Compete on Day 2 of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (4/29/16) - The Princeton men's track & field team competed in three relays and in the shot put on on Day 2 of the Penn Relays on Friday, April 29.
In the distance medley relay Championship of America race the Tigers finished in sixth place with a time of 9:39.25. Senior Luke Brahm led off and ran the 1200 in 3:00.06 followed by junior Ray Mennin running a 400-leg in 47.36. Sophomore Noah Kauppila clocked 1:49.25 in the 800-leg and sophomore Garrett O'Toole anchored with a 4:01.86 in the final 1600 meters.
Princeton won this event in 2012 at 9:42.45 with a relay of Joe Stilin, Tom Hopkins, Michael Williams and Donn Cabral. The Tigers made history that year as it also won the 4xmile, for the second straight season, and became the first Ivy League team to win two Championship of America relays at the same Relays since Yale in 1961.
Mennin anchored the 4x400 that finished 16th out of 73 teams. Senior Daniel McCord led off, followed by junior Jabari Johnson, Joshua Freeman before the final handoff to Mennin as the relay posted a 3:14.17 to take seventh in section 2. The time qualifies for the relay for the college finals which will be held tomorrow, Saturday at 5:40 p.m.
The 4x100 of freshman Charles Volker, freshman Josh Billingson, McCord and sophomore Carrington Akosa was ultimately disqualified after putting in a time of 41.54 in heat 3.
In the shot put championship, junior Christopher Cook took third place with a throw of 17.96 (58-11.25), his best of the season. He recorded throws of 16.07, 16.54, 16.58, foul, 16.97, 17.96. In the college-level shot put, sophomore Mitchel Charles was fourth at 17.01 (55-9.75), while junior Jared Bell was 10th at 16.24 (53-3.5).
Princeton wraps up the Penn Relays tomorrow and will also compete at the Lions' Invitational at TCNJ.
