PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton baseball team continues its trek through Red Rolfe Division of the Ivy League with a road trip to Yale (Fri.) and Brown (Sun.) this weekend. The team play a doubleheader against each Ivy League rival with Friday's contests beginning at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday's games starting at 12 p.m.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
- The Monmouth Hawks ended Princeton's five-game winning streak with a 7-3 victory on Wednesday at Clarke Field.
- Senior Danny Hoy and sophomore Asher Lee-Tyson had two hits each. Hoy, in the game, extended his on-base streak to eight games. Junior Nick Hernandez extended his modest five-game hitting streak in the game as well.
- Senior Luke Strieber threw his fourth career complete game in game one of last Saturday's doubleheader vs. Dartmouth.
- The Tigers won game one over the Big Green, 2-1 on a walk-off double by senior Billy Arendt.
- In game two vs. Dartmouth, trailing by two runs in the bottom of the 10th, Hernandez slashed a two-run double to tie the contest at 8-all. A few hitters later, freshman Joseph Flynn lifted a fly ball to left that sent the Tigers' fans home happy on Saturday.
- In game one vs. Harvard last Sunday, the Tigers had just two hits, but junior Zack Belski's home run in the first inning proved to be the difference.
- Senior Cameron Mingo threw his second consecutive complete game in game one vs. the Crimson as the Tigers won 4-1.
- A seven-run sixth inning separated Princeton as it rolled over Harvard, 14-5 in game two.
- Senior Andrew Christie's line drive grand slam in the sixth inning was his first career home run.
ON A ROLL
- Jesper Horsted and Flynn were named Ivy League Co-Rookies of the Week on Monday. They became the first Tigers to receive the honor since junior Paul Tupper in March of 2014.
- The Tigers had five players start the previous five games over the week that hit at least .333.
- Hoy in the last last five games has scored a team-best seven runs along with posting a .467/.600/.600 slash line.
- In the past week, Hernandez has 10 RBI in 21 plate appearances.
- Princeton has hit five home runs in the last five contests.
ON THE HILL
- In the team's 4-0 Ivy League weekend, the Tigers' starting pitchers threw 26 innings and allowed just three earned runs (1.04 ERA).
- Every starter that has made at least three starts has an ERA of 3.52 or lower.
- Junior Keelan Smithers has given up two earned runs in 15 innings (1.20 ERA).
- The Tigers have five complete games.
- Mingo and Strieber lead the team with 20 strikeouts.
BATTING AROUND
- Among league qualifiers, Hernandez leads the team with a .310 average along with a team-best 26 hits and 17 RBI.
- Flynn, Hoy and Belski lead the team with two home runs.
- Hoy has raised his batting average to .277 in 83 at-bats. He has 16 runs and 32 total bases, tops among his teammates.
- Flynn's slash line stands at .275/.375/.391. His on-base percentage and slugging percentage is the highest on the Tigers among Ivy League qualifiers.
- Arendt's 13 walks lead the team.
SCOUTING YALE/BROWN
- Yale is 7-18-1 on the season and 2-2 in Ivy League play.
- The Bulldogs has secured victories against Holy Cross, Quinnipiac, Bucknell, Columbia and Fairfield.
- Yale took on No. 3 Texas A.M. to begin the season, getting swept in three games. Yale alum and former President of the United States, George H.W. Bush attended one of the games.
- Benny Wanger has the top batting average on Yale (.316) and has the highest on-base percentage (.466) in the Ivy League.
- Richard Slenker has a .313 batting average and is tied with Simon Whiteman for the team high in hits (26).
- Among pitchers who have made at least three appearances, Scott Politz has the team-low ERA (3.52). Politz is 2-3 on the season with two complete games and 28 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings.
- Griffin Dey has 10.8 K/9 in 10 innings. He is 2-0 in eight appearances with a 5.40 ERA.
- The Bulldogs went 15-23 last season and 6-14 in league play.
- Brown is 7-13 this year and 1-3 in Ivy League play.
