Women's Track & Field Qualifies Nine for the NCAA East Regional

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/21/15) - Nine members of the Princeton women's track & field team will participate in the 2015 NCAA East Regional it was announced by the NCAA on Thursday, May 19. The East Regional will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., on the campus of the University of North Florida on May 26-30.
Both senior Cecilia Barowski and sophomore Ashley Forte qualified in 800. Barowski holds the fourth fastest time in the region at 2:02.62, a time that qualified her for the US Olympic Trials in July. A Princeton program record time, Barowski was 19th in the NCAA outdoor championships in 2015 and was sixth at the NCAA indoor championships this year. This is Forte's first trip to the regionals and gets there with a time of 2:07.81 at the Princeton Outdoor Invitational. The first round will be held on Thursday at 8:10 p.m., with the top three from each of six heats, plus the next six fastest times advance to Friday's quarterfinal.
Junior Katie Hanss makes her first appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals as she qualifies in the 1500. She posted a season-best time and a PR of 4:22.63 at Larry Ellis Invitational this season. The first round will be on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., with the top five from each of four heats advancing, plus the next four fastest times to Saturday's quarterfinal.
Three Tigers will take on the steeplechase. Senior Emily de La Bruyere not only qualifies for the steeplechase but also the 5k. This is the second straight season de La Bruyere qualifies in the steeplechase. She has the 12th fastest time in the East at 10:06.26. Junior Lizzie Bird has been in the regionals in this event every single year and has a run the event just twice this year, qualifying with a 10:15.03. Last year she made the NCAA championship, finishing 22nd overall to earn honorable mention All-America honors. Joining the veteran duo is junior Ally Markovich. THis is her NCAA regional debut and reaches it with a PR of 10:26.24 from Larry Ellis. The quarterfinal of the steeple will be the final events on Friday night at 8:50 p.m. The top three from each of three heats, plus the next fastest three times will make up the 12 that will advance to the championhip in Eugene.
de La Bruyere has the fifth fastest time in the 5k at 16:04.19 from the Stanford Invitational. This is the first time she'll be pulling double duty in the regionals. The semifinal race will be held at 8:05 p.m., on Saturday. The top five from each of two heats plus the next two fastest times will make up the 12 that will head to championship weekend in Eugene.
Senior Kathryn Fluehr makes her second consecutive appearance in the NCAA regional. She qualified in the 5k last year, and now will take on the longer distance after clocking a PR of 34:29.59 at Sam Howell. The 10k semifinal race is slated for 9 p.m., on Thursday. The top 12 will qualify for the championship in Eugene.
The Ivy League pole vault record holder Allison Harris will make her regional debut. She has a mark of 4.15 during the outdoor season to qualify but has reached 4.20 indoors. The pole vault will take place at 5 p.m., on Friday. The top 12 will advance to Eugene.
Sophomore Kennedy O'Dell will also make her first appearance in the NCAA regional. She has a mark of 56.81 in the hammer throw, thrown just last weekend at the ECACs. Her event will be held on Thursday at 4 p.m. The top 12 will advance to the championships in Eugene.
