Barowski Punches Ticket Back to Eugene

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (5/27/16) - Senior Cecilia Barowski has punched her ticket back to Eugene! She led section 2 of the 800 quarterfinals from start to finish at the NCAA East Regional to reach championship weekend for the second straight year.
Barowski ran 1:00.81 for the first 400 meters before a 1:02.83 in the second 400 for a final time of 2:03.64. Overall, it was the fourth fastest time out of the 24 competitors in the quarterfinals. She reached the quarters after winning her heat last night in the prelims with a time of 2:04.85.
A first-team All-America in the 800 during the indoor season, Barowski posted an Olympic qualifying time of 2:02.62 this season at Stanford and has the seventh fastest-time in the NCAA this outdoor season.
Junior Allison Harris started off strong in the pole vault. She was the first in flight 2 to clear the opening mark of 3.80 (12-5.5) and did so on her first attempt. She then cleared the next height of 3.95 (12-11.5) on her first attempt as well to sit in a first place tie. Rain showers delayed the event and when it resumed, Harris wasn't able to clear 4.10 (13-5.25) and she closed out in 27th place overall.
Senior Emily de La Bruyere, junior Lizzie Bird, junior Ally Markovich all faced each other in the same heat of the steeplechase quarterfinals. de La Bruyere was fifth and Bird seventh after two laps. After four laps de la Bruyere (4:39.98) was maintaining fifth place and posted the fastest split in lap four at 1:20.19, while Bird (4:42.96) was eighth and Markovich 13th (4:49.67). One lap later, de La Bruyere moved into fourth (6:01.02) while Bird stayed eighth (6:06.12). Markovich had a rough lap five and dropped from the race. With two laps left de La Bruyere (7:23.64) was still in fourth and Bird eighth (7:30.35). Bird finished strong with a final split of 1:17.00 to take sixth at 10:10.28, her fastest time of the season. de La Bruyere slogged a 1:42.11 in the final lap to take ninth at 10:29.87.de La Bruyere has another chance to qualify for Eugene tomorrow with the 5k at 8:05 p.m.
