Helena van Brande named CWPA Defensive Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Helena van Brande of the Princeton women's water polo team was selected as the Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Defensive Player of the Week.
In Princeton's 12-8 win over Harvard in the first round of the CWPA Championship, van Brande made 10 saves to help the team advance to the semifinals for the fifth straight season. Harvard got within three with just under four minutes to go in the game, but the goalie pitched a shutout the rest of the way.
For the second consecutive game, van Brande recorded 10+ saves with 12 tallies against No. 5 Michigan in the semifinal match. In the team's 9-8 loss, she posted a .571 save percentage and secured two steals.
The sophomore goalie finished her 2016 season with seven saves as the Tigers defeated No. 21 Hartwick, 17-10 in the CWPA third place game. For the season, van Brande finished 15-6 with a .516 save percentage, 161 saves and 40 steals.
