PRINCETON, N.J. – Freshman Elise Wong of the Princeton field hockey team will travel to Germany with the United States U19 National Team.
The U19 squad is traveling to Bad Breuznach, Germany to battle the German National Team. The matches will take place at the Bad Kreunach Hockey Club from May 11-17.
Wong is a veteran of the junior national team, playing for the U-19 team for the last two years and the U-17 squad from 2012-15. The midfielder traveled to Belgium last year as well.
Quickly becoming a staple in the Tigers' lineup, Wong, an All-Ivy League first team player, helped anchor the squad's defensive efforts. She and fellow freshman Sophia Tornetta became the first freshman duo to be named to the all-conference first team since 2009.
Posting three shutouts, Princeton's defense was especially stingy against Ivy opponents, surrendering just 1.4 goals per game. In a 4-0 victory over Yale, Wong and the Tiger backline did not surrender a shot, becoming the first squad to accomplish the feat in head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn's 13-year tenure. Recording her first career points with a pair of assists against Virginia, Wong sat third on the team in helpers with six.
