July 01, 2016 | Women's Golf
Princeton rising sophomore Amber Wang tied for the top score at the USGA Women's Amateur qualifier Wednesday at Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas and will be moving on to the national event in August.
Wang and TCU rising sophomore Annika Clark both turned in scores of 69 in the single-round event, with Wang completing the first nine holes in just 31 shots. Ten players, of the 107 who attempted to qualify at the Fort Worth site, won the right to move on to the USGA Women's Amateur, which will run Aug. 1-7 at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa., just west of Philadelphia.
At the Texas Golf Association's Women's Stroke Play Championship that wrapped last Sunday at Houston's Pine Forest Country Club, Wang finished second at -6 by two strokes to Houston rising junior Megan Thothong after carding a 72, a 68 and a 70 as one of only four players in the field to turn in a sub-70 round.

In her first year at Princeton, Wang was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer and competed in all eight events, finishing no lower than 12th in any tournament. Wang finished her season tying for sixth at the Ivy League Championships.
