July 22, 2016 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton field hockey team has released its 2016 schedule which includes six NCAA Tournament teams from last season including two from the Final Four.
Â
"This year's strength of schedule will once again rank as one of the best in the country and will afford us the opportunity to compete with the top teams from every conference," said head coach Carla Tagliente. "It's important that we stay present and focus on the game in front of us. As well, it's imperative that we focus on the process and improving every day."
The Tigers get 2016 started with North Carolina at Bedford Field on Sept. 2. North Carolina lost to Syracuse in the NCAA championship last season. A home match vs. Bucknell follows two days later.
Â
Albany (Sept. 9) and Delaware (Sept. 10), who each made the NCAA Tournament in 2015, travel to Princeton the next week. The field hockey team's first road contest is another NCAA squad in Virginia (Sept. 16). A non-conference match at Bedford vs. Maryland (Sept. 20) is before the Ivy League opener vs. Dartmouth (Sept. 24).
Â
A streak of four consecutive road games begins at American on Sept. 25. The Tigers' first Ivy contest away is at Yale (Oct. 1) while a matchup at Penn State (Oct. 2) awaits the next day.
Â
After battling at Columbia (Oct. 7), Duke (Oct. 9), a Final Four team in 2015, heads to Princeton. The Tigers continue their home stand vs. Brown (Oct. 15), Towson (Oct. 16) and Harvard (Oct. 22). There will be one final road game at Cornell (Oct. 29) before the regular season comes to an end vs. Penn (Nov. 5). The first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament will be Nov. 12 and 13.Â
"The season is always a journey", mentioned Tagliente. "Every game on the schedule is exceedingly important and helps us to prepare for what's next. If we can embrace that process orientated mentality, we will be happy with the end result. I am looking forward to getting started, and I know our players will be ready and excited to compete."
