Higginson, Cabral and Oliver All Advance at Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. (7/4/16) - Princeton track & field alums Ashley Higginson '11, Donn Cabral '12 and Imani Oliver '14 each advanced in their respective events on Day 4 of the 2016 USA Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Ore.

Higginson started the day automatically qualifying with a third-place finish in heat 1 of three in the women's steeplechase as 36 runners raced for 14 spots. Higginson led nearly the entire 3000 meters and the pack of three of Higginson, Bridget Franek and Courtney Frerichs pulled away for the final two laps. Franek took first at 9:39.93, Frerichs took second at 9:40.98 and Higginson was third at 9:42.18 (42.48, 1:16.36, 1:17.00, 1:16.09, 1:16.17, 1:16.8, 1:18.07, 1:19.36). She will vie for one of three spots on the US team on Thursday, as the final is slated for 7:48 p.m., PT.

Donn Cabral won his heat of the men's steeplechase at 8:26.96. There were only two heats of the men's steeple, a total of 24 to compete for 14 spots in Friday's final. Â Cabral held the lead throughout (37.75, 1:06.75, 1:09.40, 1:10.04, 1:08.32, 1:08.49, 1:05.10, 1:01.14) and posted the fastest overall time. The final is set for 5:23 p.m., PT on Friday.

Imani Oliver jumped a PR of 14.02 (46-0) to place third in the qualifiers of the triple jump to be one of the 12 that advances to the finals. She was one of just three to jump over 46 feet. The final is Thursday at 6:30 p.m., PT.
Tuesday will be an official rest day at the US Olympic Trials, with Princeton track & field corps resuming action on Thursday, June 7.
