Football Picked Fifth In Ivy League Preseason Media Poll; Season Tickets Now Available
August 09, 2016 | Football
The 2016 Princeton football team was picked to finish fifth in the annual league media poll, which was announced Aug. 9 prior to the Ivy League Footbal Media Day. Harvard, Penn and Dartmouth, all of which shared the 2015 title, took the first three spots, followed by Yale and Princeton.
Brown, Columbia and Cornell rounded out the bottom three spots.
Bob Surace, the Charles W. Caldwell Jr. '25 Head Coach of Football, spoke for several minutes during the annual conference call with league media. Among his comments:
• he believed the strength of his team was in the depth of the front seven, including All-Ivy returners Rohan Hylton, Ty Desiré, and Henry Schlossberg, as well as the return of Kurt Holuba, who missed the last seven games of the 2015 season with injury
• he thought that both the defensive backfield and the offensive line would need to build greater depth during the offseason
• he talked about numerous offensive skill players, including returning quarterbacks Chad Kanoff and John Lovett, and compared them to positionless basketball players who can do multiple things at any time
• he was looking forward to seeing the development of Ivy indoor 60m champion Charlie Volker, the current backup to All-Ivy RB and tri-captain Joe Rhattigan
• he mentioned Dorian Williams first in a question about leadership and referenced him as a four-year starter, but he thought other upperclassmen stepped up as leaders during the offseason
• he highlighted Mike Catapano '13, Caraun Reid '14 and Seth DeValve '16, as well as the 22 other former Ivy League players currently in NFL camps
