Volleyball Tops Seattle, Will Face Garden State Pair Friday

A pair of freshmen helped the reigning Ivy League champion Princeton women's volleyball team open its final nonleague weekend in victorious fashion Thursday evening in the opening match of the Rutgers Tournament. On Friday, the duo will try to help the Tigers win an unofficial state championship.
Devon Peterkin and Maggie O'Connell, both of whom experienced their first collegiate classes over the last 48 hours, combined for 25 kills in Princeton's 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 victory over Seattle University. The duo combined for more than half of Princeton's kills, and Peterkin added seven digs, two blocks and two assists in the victory. That performance came less than two weeks after she earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors following an all-tournament team performance at the San Francisco Invitational.
Junior Alex Thompson had her strongest performance of the season, recording five kills on only seven swings, while sophomore Nnenna Ibe — an all-tournament team pick this past weekend at Georgetown — added seven kills and two blocks.
Princeton returns to the court twice Friday, beginning with a 12:30 showdown against the host Rutgers Scarlet Knights; the match will be streamed live on BTN2Go (subscription required). The Tigers will play their final nonleague match at 4 pm when they take on Seton Hall. Both matches can be followed via live stats, which you can access below.
